SEMILIKI TRUST

It has been very distressing following the news from Goma as it was attacked by M23 rebels and effectively annexed by neighbour Rwanda. Many hundreds of people have been killed and wounded. Rebels have been destabilising the whole eastern part of North Kivu province for the past 28 years, and conflict minerals have been exported out of the area to neighbouring countries, helping drive the conflict. Previously the volcano Mount Nyiragongo erupted destroying large parts of this city of a million people including hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people. Semiliki trustee Sam Pearson and health adviser Nigel Pearson visited our partners in Goma in November 2024. They visited the school for orphans which also feeds a hundred and fifty vulnerable children twice a week, supported by Semiliki.

Please pray for the ongoing work and you can donate to Semiliki. Click Semiliki Trust for more information about their work,

LAURA'S BLOG

YOUSHAPE

St. Matthew's will be the local hub in 2025 for YouShape: a non-residential discipleship year from the Oxford Diocese for 18-30 year olds. We're really excited to host this programme which explores Christian spiritual practices through monthly meet ups, a retreat weekend, and a pilgrimage. Please do share with anyone who might be interested. There is more information and a place to register interest on the website:  YouShape.Life. Or, alternatively, contact Laura via the church office.

PARISH CENTRE FEEDBACK

We've had several opportunities for members of church to share any thoughts you may have about the parish centre refresh before we start planning for it. One final opportunity is either face to face after the service on November 24th for a brief time or, if you are not able to use the QR code, you can find an online form here.

VACANCY

The Personal Assistant to the Archdeacon of Oxford is retiring shortly. She has given 10 years of service to the incumbents and churchwardens as well as the chaplains and interfaith communities of the wider diocese and been Chair of the Staff Reps at Church House.

Please contact Jenni via the church office if you are interested.

ST.MATTHEW'S EVENT WHATSAPP

If you would like to be part of a WhatsApp group that connects all the Events happening at St. Matthew's then please let Laura know via the church office. We'd love for this to involve everyone that is involved in organising activities at St. Matthew's so that we can continue to connect and grow the life of the church.

HELPING OUR YOUNG PEOPLE

We want to build on our intergenerational focus as a church.  Moving forward into the Autumn term please consider assisting a leader with an under 18's group once next term.  No planning, experience or leading required. There is no age limit to being a helper!  In order to keep the provision for 0-18s as often as we would like, we need more help. Please contact Jo via the church office if you are interested.

FIRST AIDER NEEDED

We are in need of a couple of first aiders in our church family. Training will be organised and provided!

Please consider whether this is something you can offer.
